Danielle Hill sets new national record in fourth Irish Open triumph

Danielle Hill set the second Irish senior record of the week in winning the women's 100 freestyle on day three of the Irish Open Swim meet at the NAC in Dublin.

The Tokyo Olympian bettered her own best time by in the Blue Riband event by .46 of a second in 54.87 seconds in this evening's final.

Hill led from the off, heading fastest qualifiers Victoria Catterson and Erin Riordan, and never looked like being caught, leading at the 50 mark before going on to claim her third national title of the week.

The 23-year-old Larne swimmer had already won the 50 free and 200 backstroke titles and went on to claim her fourth crown of the meeting in the final race on day three, taking the 50-metre butterfly in 26.82 seconds

Julia Knox, who is currently training at the George Washington University in the USA, arrived in on Wednesday night and won a thrilling women’s 400 metres individual medley.

She hunted down Templeogue’s Molly Mayne in the last leg, freestyle, to take the gold in 4 mins 52.43 seconds.

Niamh Coyne won her second title by beating Mayne to the touch in the final of the women's 50 breastroke in 32.37 seconds

In the three men’s finals. Max McCusker of Dolphin who swims out of Florida State, won his third gold medal of the week in taking victory in the men’s 100 metres butterfly.

McCusker swam 52.63 seconds, .11 of a second shy of Shane Ryan’s Irish senior record, in adding to the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly titles he had already claimed.

Eoin Corby, the Irish junior record holder, added the men’s 50 meter breaststroke to the 100 breastroke title he won on Tuesday, beating Olympian Darragh Greene to the touch in 27.99 seconds.
