Daniel Farke 'holds' Celtic talks as former Norwich boss emerges as Ange replacement option

Celtic have reportedly opened talks with Daniel Farke about becoming their next manager.

Sky Germany journalist Fliran Plettenberg claims that the Hoops have held initial discussions with the German, who has experience of British football with Norwich City, leading the Canaries to the English Premier League before being relegated, about possibly replacing Ange Postecoglou. After leaving Carrow Road, Farke had a short stint in Russia with Krasnodar before leaving after the country invaded Ukraine. He then returned to his homeland with Borussia Monchengladbach, but was sacked earlier this month after just one season in charge, finishing 10th in the Bundesliga.

Farke, who is also wanted by Leeds United to lead their charge back to the English top flight, cut his coaching teeth under Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund and forged a reputation for playing attacking, high energy football in East Anglia after they took a gamble on the former Dortmund youth coach. Any talks with the Hoops won’t necessarily mean he’s their first choice, however.

Record Sport exclusively revealed that Enzo Maresca is high on their wanted list. An official approach to speak to the Manchester City coach is expected to come after Saturday evening’s Champions League Final, in which City take on Inter in Istanbul.

Former Parkhead boss and serial Treble winner Brendan Rodgers is alo thought to be in the thinking of majority shareholder Dermot Desmond. The irishman still holds Rodgers in high regard after his first spell in charge, but would need to gauge fan reaction after Rodgers upset a good chunk of the Celtic support with the manner of his 2019 departure to Leicester City.
