Dan Sheehan named URC Players' Player of the Season

Leinster's Dan Sheehan has been voted Player's Player of the Season for the 2022/23 BKT United Rugby Championship.

The Ireland international, who scored eight tries in the regular season of the URC, came out on top in the ballot, which was voted for by the league's captains and vice-captains.

The hooker was one of three Leinster players names in the URC's Dream Team in recent weeks, while he was also nominated in both the Men's XV and Men's Young Player of the Year categories at last week's Rugby Player Ireland awards.

Among Sheehan's eight tries was a four-try haul in his first game of the season against Benetton back in September, while he's scored 14 times in 24 games for both province and country this season.

Sheehan helped Leinster to a first place finish in the regular season, but their URC title hopes were ended by Munster in the semi-final, before last week's defeat to La Rochelle in the Champions Cup final, in which Sheehan scored two tries.

The 24-year-old has been capped 17 times by Ireland and was part of the team which registered a tour success against New Zealand last summer.

In addition, he went over twice as Ireland clinched Six Nations Grand Slam success in Dublin for the first time with a battling 29-16 bonus-point victory over 14-man England in March.
