Newcastle United’s 11th-placed finish in the Premier League this year was a remarkable achievement given the position they were in just six months ago, and now a big step has been taken to ensure they achieve an even higher finish next season.
Dan Ashworth has been officially confirmed as the club’s sporting director ahead of next season, where he will help to oversee the Magpies’ transfer business as they continue targeting high-profile signings following their multi-million pound takeover in October.
And as a result, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Eddie Howe’s side will invest “heavily” this summer and sign '”quality” players as they look to push on into the higher echelons of the league.
Although the Magpies may have to abide by a number of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules this summer, the north east outfit are still expected to produce a large turnover of players within their squad as they look to improve their camaraderie for next season.
