Dan Ashworth comments hint at how Manchester United might reach Erik ten Hag decision

In Manchester United's current predicament, it is easy to forget there are still another 93 points to play for in the Premier League this season.

Sunday's goalless draw with Aston Villa at Villa Park marked a fifth game in all competitions without a victory and a third successive league game without scoring. It would be an understatement to suggest Erik ten Hag is now under pressure.

It feels as though the walls are closing in on the Dutchman and his Old Trafford premiership. Senior United officials are meeting in London today (Tuesday) and it remains to be seen if the outcome of the meeting will result in Ten Hag being ordered to clear his desk.

Only last month, United chief executive Omar Berrada threw his weight of support by Ten Hag, insisting the Dutchman still had the club's backing. However, United have since been beaten 3-0 at home by both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, gone three Premier League games without a goal and failed to win either of their opening two Europa League assignments.

With October still young, it could be considered premature to even be discussing the prospect of a manager losing his job; there is still an awful lot of football to be played and situations can change in the blink of an eye.

However, United's struggles, despite winning a second trophy in as many seasons last term, are long-term. They finished eighth in the Premier League last term, playing a chaotic brand of football, and have regressed so far this season, winning two of their opening seven league games, scoring a paltry five goals.
