Damien Duff signs new contract to stay on as Shelbourne boss

Damien Duff has signed a contract extension as manager of Shelbourne.

The Tolka Park side finished in fourth place in the League Of Ireland Premier Division this season, but Duff admitted last week that he was frustrated at the lack of planning for the immediate future at the club.

However, with the ownership structure of the club straightened out in recent days following a "restructuring" of the club's shareholding, the former Ireland star has been able to sign on the dotted line and ensure he remains in the Shels hotseat for the forseeable.

A club statement read: "Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce that Damien Duff has put pen to paper on a new contract extension with the club.

"Duff took over at Tolka Park in 2021. He's made an enormously positive contribution and his influence in the growth and development of the club on and off the field has been immeasurable.

This contract extension reaffirms the club’s commitment in Duff’s ambitious vision for the future. The club is confident that under his guidance, Shelbourne will continue to grow and once again become a competitive force in domestic competition.

Damien Duff, Head Coach Shelbourne FC said: "Shelbourne FC, born in 1895 is a Dublin Institution. It is built on hard work, respect, humility and honesty. This can never be lost. See you in Tolka soon, Up the Reds."

A further statement regarding the ownership situation added: "The club are pleased that long term supporter and shareholder Mickey O'Rourke has acquired, through TDL Media, the shareholding of Acun Media. Under the terms of the agreement, Acun Media do not require repayment of their investment made in the club. Mickey O’Rourke will continue to work alongside other Irish and US shareholders.
