Dalbeattie Star need extra time to see off Mid Annandale in Haig Gordon Cup
Dalbeattie Star needed extra-time to progress in the cup for the second week running.
Seven days after they saw off Carluke Rovers in the Scottish Cup, they welcomed Mid Annandale to Islecroft in the Haig Gordon Cup.
Ross Hunter gave Star the lead at the break thanks to a penalty he needed two attempts to convert – the first having sailed over the bar before a retake was order as the Mids goalie was deemed to have moved off his line.
Laurie Maxwell equalised early in the second half to take the game to extra-time, Hunter scoring just before the end of the first period to send Star through.
Star boss, Eddie Warwick, said: “Our fitness levels were good and it was quite a tough game.
“I don’t think we played well if I’m honest. I’m not being disrespectful to Mids, I thought they were good.”
The game also saw a debut for youngster Adam Jamieson, who has joined Star on loan from Annan Athletic.
Warwick said: “Adam came in to train with us last week. He came on as a substitute on Saturday and we thought he did well.”
Star have no game this week, with Warwick using the free Saturday to head north to see Scottish Cup opponents Banks o’ Dee in action.
