Dalbeattie Star "clinical and ruthless" against Lochmaben

Dalbeattie Star were “clinical and ruthless” against Lochmaben on Saturday.

The Islecroft side ran out 4-0 winners with Dale Milligan scoring a hat-trick and Ross Hunter also on scoresheet.

Boss Eddie Warwick said: “I’m very pleased to win on Saturday. The goals we scored all came from good attacking play and being clinical and ruthless.

“It’s another clean sheet in the league, which is also very pleasing, and credit to the lads for working hard on that aspect.

“Lochmaben is not an easy place to go. Their results suggest they struggle away from home but their home results are much tighter.

“They use the narrow pitch and conditions very well to their advantage and they have a young energetic team who can get the ball down and play so I’m delighted to get that one ticked off with a win.”

Hunter fired Star in front after just 10 minutes.

He then set up strike partner Dale Milligan to add the second midway through the first half.

Milligan made it three just before the break and completed his hat-trick just after the interval.

Lochmaben were reduced to 10 men before the end when Ben English was dismissed to complete a miserable day for the hosts.

This weekend, Star are at home to Mid Annandale in the Cree Lodge Cup.

Warwick said: “It will be difficult again as the last cup match against Mids needed extra time.

“Mids have some very good players amongst their ranks with higher experience levels.

“I’m a very honest person and credit where it’s due, Mids should have been 3-0 up in 20 minutes last time. It was a very poor start to the game for us and our keeper had to make some very big saves early on but we dug deep and showed character to get through in extra-time.
