Dalbeattie Star boss believes "exciting times" are ahead for Lowland League side

Dalbeattie Star boss Jordan Williamson believes “exciting times” are ahead.

The Lowland League club has lost players to Threave Rovers and Gretna 2008 over the summer.

Replacements have been lined-up but their identities hadn’t been revealed at the time of going to press.

Williamson – who will meet supporters tonight in a special fans’ forum at Islecroft – believes the wait to find out who the new signings are will be worth it.

He said: “We have brought a good group of lads together. Some I’ve worked with in the past and others we’ve been keeping tabs on.

“They have a lot of quality and a lot of good coaching has happened with these players at their previous clubs.

“I can understand fans’ disappointment in seeing players walk out the door.

“But with the squad we’re building it’s exciting times.

“I’m looking forward to showcasing them in the upcoming friendlies for fans to see for themselves.

“The intensity in training has been high and you can see the quality. They’re starting to gel as each session has gone by.

“I’m confident they can make the step up and adjust to this level and this league.

“I’m more than confident they will be good signings and good assets for us.”

Star began their friendly programme last night when they faced St Cuthbert Wanderers in the Jim Hyslop Memorial Trophy, which pays tribute to the grandfather of Williamson’s assistant Ross Hyslop.

On Saturday they face Killingworth at 1pm at Islecroft before the memorial trophy comes to a conclusion against Creetown on Wednesday night.

Williamson said: “It’s close to our heart with it being Ross’ grandfather and it’s a great way to honour all he did for local football.

“Saturday will be good to play a different opponent from a different region.
