Daizen Maeda lands Tottenham transfer pitch as Ange Postecoglou needs star to set tone for his Celtic mantra

Celtic star Daizen Maeda would be the perfect "example" for Ange Postecoglou to show his Tottenham players his football philosophy.

And Kevin Gallacher admits he is "a little surprised" that the Australian has not already made his move to take the Japan international from Glasgow's east end to North London. The 27-year-old is in the midst of his most impressive season since making his move to Celtic Park back in 2022 with Postecoglou taking him from his former side to Yokohama F. Marinos - netting 23 goals so far this season under Brendan Rodgers.

The forward caught the eyes of European football with his impressive display against Bayern Munich - netting a vital Champions League first leg goal that gives the club a lifeline as they head to the Allianz Arena this week. In contrast, it has been a tough campaign for Spurs with the club facing the prospect of another trophyless season - with the Europa League the only shot at silverware.

The Premier League heavyweights are languishing in the lower reaches of the table despite Sunday's victory over Manchester United. And former Scotland international Gallacher reckons Maeda could be a key man for Posecoglou at Spurs as he lives up his "we never stop" Parkhead mantra.

Writing for the Sunday Post, Gallacher said: "Daizen Maeda will look to do some more damage for Celtic against Bayern Munich in Tuesday's Champions League return at the Allianz Arena. The Japanese striker scored his team's goal in the first leg at Celtic Park last Wednesday, a crucial contribution as the 2-1 final score gives them a chance.

"More than that, his performance when used through the middle helped galvanise Brendan Rodgers' side and has given them cause to believe they can upset the odds in Germany.
