Cyclist rushed to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after being ‘hit by car’

Police have issued a public appeal for help after a cyclist was rushed to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after being ‘hit by a car’ in Wythenshawe.

Officers were called to the crash between a man on a pedal bike and a car on the junction of Brownley Road and Hollyhedge Road at around 10pm last night (Saturday).

Shortly before the incident, it is believed there was an altercation between the man, and two vehicles believed to be a White Seat Arona and dark-coloured VW Golf, police said.

The man remains in hospital with serious injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage.

Officers are keen for anyone with CCTV, dash cam, or mobile phone footage to get in touch.

Detective Inspector John Robb, from GMP’s Manchester district, said: “This is an awful incident which has seen a man seriously injured - thankfully the injuries are not life-threatening, but things could very easily have been much worse.

“We are currently looking into all lines of enquiry and extensive work is ongoing to ensure that we find those responsible for this act. I urge anyone who witnessed any of last night’s events or saw anything suspicious to please get in touch.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police via 101, gmp.police.uk, or 0161 856 6051, quoting log 3491 of 22/06/24.
