Curtain comes down on Fergal O'Brien's career after defeat
Fergal O'Brien was beaten 10-8 by Mostafa Dorgham in a World Snooker Championship qualifying first round match in Sheffield in what proved to be the final night of his career.
Dorgham, from Cairo, is ranked 124 in the world and caused an upset in defeating O’Brien.
The former Masters finalist and British Open champion revealed to RTÉ Sport last year that he would bow out at the end of the season following the Worlds.
O’Brien, currently 106 in the rankings, took a 3-0 lead but was level at 4-4 and 7-7 before the Egyptian took control at the English Institute of Sport.
The qualifiers take place over four rounds in a bid to reach the Crucible.
