Crystal Palace latest news: Vieira doesn't have '100 percent confidence' in any of his strikers

Journalist Tom Barclay reckons that Patrick Vieira doesn’t have “100 percent confidence” in any of his Crystal Palace strikers.

Vieira’s side scored four for the first time in his reign at Watford on Wednesday, but Palace’s three senior strikers have generally struggled in front of goal this season.

The 4-1 win over Watford was a confidence-booster for Vieira’s team, although it was two familiar faces in Conor Gallagher and Wilfried Zaha that ultimately proved the difference.

Jean-Philippe Mateta did put the Eagles ahead before Moussa Sissoko equalised, although Zaha stuck twice after Gallagher’s brilliant effort had put Palace back in front.

Those two are now on eight goals each this season, meaning they’re on course to outscore each of Palace’s three recognised striker, who have 12 combined.

Mateta started the game at Vicarage Road, but Vieira’s lack of faith in his frontmen was highlighted when he left all three on the bench for the defeat to Chelsea four days earlier.

Christian Benteke and Odsonne Edouard are his two other options, but the Belgian has been an unused substitute for the last four games, while the latter has started just once in five matches.

Palace have scored the eighth most goals in the top-flight this season, proving they can score from all over the pitch and aren’t relying on one player, but their situation up front remains a concern.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It feels like he doesn’t have 100 percent confidence in any of his strikers at the moment.”
