Football finance expert Rob Wilson told Sky Sports News that Chelsea will have to sell a number of players in the summer, even with new owners coming in.
It comes amid uncertainty surrounding the club’s future, following sanctions placed upon Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich by the UK Government on Thursday morning.
Wilson said: “I think that’s the real threat for the football club, if we park the potential administration if they can’t pay those players in the short term, I think over the summer we’re going to see a number of players probably having to be sold.
“I imagine that the licence will be re-negotiated with the government to make sure that any potential new buyer can come in, but those new buyers are going to have to have some seriously deep pockets because the running costs of the club are significant.”
