Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward makes Manchester United prediction

Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward believes Manchester United will get back to the top.

United have experienced plenty of change since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick have all been and gone with limited success.

Now entrusted with returning the Reds to where they once were is Erik ten Hag. Having started off with back-to-back defeats, United are now on a run of four straight victories in the Premier League and Ward believes it is only a matter of time before they eventually start competing for titles again.

Speaking to The Times, Ward said: "I think they are searching for that [success] again and want to get back to that. But they are still one of the biggest clubs in the world and they will eventually get back to where they want to be and the standards they set and the force they want to be.

"But, like anything, that takes time to do. There has been a lot of change in the past seven, eight years at the club.

"There have been a lot of ups and downs. I think, as a football fan, you want to see them back competing where they should be."

United should have been facing Palace on Sunday in the Premier League. However, due to the death of Her Majesty The Queen, football fixtures across the English game were postponed as a mark of respect.

A new date for the fixture has yet to be confirmed. The Reds are next in action on Thursday night when they face Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.
