Crystal Palace: 'Brilliant' £30k-a-week star 'smart signing' at Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace pulled off some ‘really smart recruitment’ by bringing in attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The 24-year-old appears to be getting back to his best following an underwhelming 2021/22 campaign where he spent the majority of his time recovering from a serious Achilles injury.
Palace snapped Eze up from London rivals Queens Park Rangers back in August 2020 for an initial £16 million fee that could rise by a further £4m if potential add-ons are triggered.
The Eagles saw off competition from the likes of Fulham, West Ham and Newcastle United, tying the former England Under-21 international down to a five-year contract worth £30,000-per-week.
And Eze outlined his desire to ‘really push on’ during his unveiling as a new Palace player, and he has certainly done that.
"As a football club, I feel like there are great players here and it's a brilliant opportunity for me to come and be with these players, to link up with them, and to really push on," he said.
Eze was one of the first players brought in as part of a new transfer strategy targeting younger stars with more attacking intent outlined by sporting director Dougie Freedman, and several other successful examples have followed.
Jones believes that Palace have done ‘really well’ to bring Eze in at this stage of his career and that it is going to be a ‘really big campaign’ for the creative talent.

“I think it's going to be a really, really big campaign for him, and let's face it, Palace have done
