Crystal Palace: 'Big boost' over 'crucial' £15.3m star at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell is set to hand Eagles boss Patrick Vieira a ‘big boost’ as he is expected to ‘win his fitness battle’ ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The south Londoners have set their sights on reaching the competition’s final for the second time in six years and Vieira will be hopeful of Mitchell being available at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Mitchell has been facing a nervous wait to discover whether he will be fully fit for this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final after suffering a calf injury during the 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.

The 22-year-old was forced to leave the King Power Stadium pitch 34 minutes into the Premier League encounter as it became clear that he would not be able to continue.

The report suggests there were initially serious fears that the £15.3million-rated ace would be unable to feature this weekend, which would have come as a huge blow to Vieira.

Mitchell’s setback came after it emerged that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is mulling over whether to make a summer move, while Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also understood to be keen.

The journalist believes being able to call upon the academy graduate would be of major importance to Vieira.
