Crouch makes Liverpool PL title call as Ferdinand adds caveat to Man City favourites tag

Peter Crouch feels Liverpool have blown their chances of winning the Premier League title as Manchester City are unlikely to drop any further points.

The Reds went into Saturday’s clash with Tottenham one point behind Pep Guardiola’s table-toppers. But they could only manage a 1-1 draw in north London. Son Heung-min gave Spurs the lead and it took a deflected strike by Luis Diaz for the Merseysiders to earn a point.

The result took them back to the top of the table on goal difference as they are level with City on 83 points. However, the Citizens have a game in hand and take on Newcastle at the Etihad on Sunday.

It has been an epic battle between two of the finest sides ever to grace the English top flight. Both clubs will have three games left to play after the conclusion of Sunday’s fixtures.

The Anfield outfit travel to Aston Villa and Southampton while they host Wolves on the final day of the season.

Following the Magpies clash, City are away at Wolves and West Ham, with Villa arriving on May 22 to wrap up the campaign.

Guardiola’s men now hold all the aces. And, when asked if Liverpool’s title hopes had evaporated, Crouch told BT Sport after the game: “I’d have to say yes.

“The standards these two clubs have set, they don’t lose many, they don’t draw many, you’d expect City to go on and win every game now.”

And the former Liverpool striker confessed that it always looked like a tough match for his old side on paper.

“We said before the game this could be the potential banana skin because Tottenham defensively, they had bodies behind there,” he added.

City crashed out of the Champions League to Real Madrid during the week. They had one foot in the final before late goals by the hosts saw their dreams shattered.
