Cristiano Ronaldo turns up the heat amid controversy following Manchester United loss to Everton

The heat is on Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo right now after their defeat to Everton left them all but mathematically out of the race for top four.

The 37-year-old faced further burning criticism amid an investigation into an incident where he allegedly knocked a phone out a fan’s hand after the full-time whistle at Goodison Park. But instead of cooling off after a hectic weekend, Ronaldo decided to get his sweat on in a sauna, sharing a topless photo with his followers on his Instagram story on Monday.

The athlete is well known for his meticulous attention to detail when it comes to looking after his body. He’s not afraid to show it off either, whipping his shirt off in celebration following a goal many times in his career.

In the Instagram photo the United megastar shared, he dons his own-brand underwear next to some sauna rocks. This weekend has arguably been Ronaldo’s toughest yet since he returned to Old Trafford.

The attacker limped back to the changing rooms after being left with a gash on his leg towards the end of the Everton loss, moments before the alleged phone incident is said to have occurred. Ronaldo later issued an apology on Instagram.

He said: “It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing. Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.
