Cristiano Ronaldo 'DOES still have a future at Manchester United'

Roy Keane and Jamie Redknapp have insisted Cristiano Ronaldo can play a big part under new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Ajax boss ten Hag was announced last week as the successor to interim Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford. 

Star forward Ronaldo is in the twilight of his career but has still scored 23 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions this season after his summer move from Juventus.

Some have criticised the 37-year-old's distinct lack of pressing ability - pressing being a key principle for ten Hag - and claimed Ronaldo achieves good individual goal totals but at the detriment of the team's overall cohesion.

But speaking after United's 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Thursday, in which Ronaldo equalised after Marcos Alonso's opener, Sky Sports pundit Keane stated his belief the Portuguese could do well under the Dutchman.

He said: 'I know people criticise him for his pressing but he's never been great at that. That was his only chance tonight really, see the chances Chelsea were creating. Imagine if he was in the Chelsea team - he would be getting 50 goals. 

'He's in a poor United side who aren't creating many chances for him.. his touch, his movement, when you turn away you know it's going to be a goal. Brilliant. In terms of goals, that's what he came back for. He's dependent on getting balls in the right areas and they've not been great at that this year but he's still produced the goods.'

When fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp asked Keane what plans ten Hag will have for the Portuguese when he takes over this summer, the former United captain insisted that Ronaldo's attacking prowess overrides his lack of pressing ability.
