Cristiano Ronaldo's Mikel Arteta reaction shown in fresh footage from Arsenal loss

Cristiano Ronaldo was quick to point out a penalty that wasn't given to Mikel Arteta after Arsenal were awarded a spot kick thanks to VAR on Saturday.

The Gunners ran out 3-1 winners against Manchester United last time out to bolster their top four hopes. The home side thought they'd gone 2-0 up after Eddie Nketiah scored their second, only for it to be ruled out for offside. However a foul in the build up by Alex Telles was spotted which allowed Bukayo Saka to convert from 12 yards.

Earlier in that passage of play though United had a penalty shout of their own waved away by referee Craig Pawson. Jadon Sancho was causing problems down the left and Cedric Soares was accused of a handball, but the appeals were waved away. Ronaldo was keen to point that out to the Arsenal boss.

Arteta remained motionless as Arsenal were awarded their penalty. Ronaldo was in close proximity and quickly engaged in dialogue with the Spaniard, suggesting that United themselves had an appeal turned down, as picked up by Arsenal's BENCH CAM. The pair shook hands after their brief exchange.

The Portuguese star did pull one back for the Red Devils shortly after the Gunners went two-goals up. His smart finish, which was his 100th goal in the Premier League, bought United back into the game. Bruno Fernandes then missed out on the chance to level the game as his second-half penalty came off the post.

Granit Xhaka scored a third for Arsenal as he powered home from 25 yards, continuing his good goalscoring run against the Manchester outfit. The reverse all but ended United's top four hopes, something interim boss Ralf Rangnick confessed after the defeat.

It means Ronaldo will be playing in the Europa League if he does remain at United beyond
