Cristiano Ronaldo’s daily earnings same as England players’ Euro 2022 bonus

The Lionesses will get just £55,00 each for winning Euro 2022 –– the same amount that Cristiano Ronaldo earns in a single day for Manchester United.  

England had already agreed on financial terms with the FA prior to the tournament and the bonus for winning the competition was the figure of £55,000 quoted above. 

Yet, this bonus is around 12 percent of what Gareth Southgate’s team would have received, had they not suffered that agonising defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 Final last year. 

Southgate’s team each earned £300,000 for reaching the final and would have pocketed £460,000 for winning. 

Meanwhile, Ronaldo is reported to earn £385,000 a week, which works out at £55,000 per day. 

We’re not disputing that one of the world’s best-ever footballers deserves to be paid the big bucks, but surely the Lionesses deserve to have their bonuses increased after their historic triumph at Wembley? 

The nation is still celebrating England’s victory on Sunday night after they beat Germany 2-1 in extra time to secure their first ever major silverware. 

Ella Toone scored a stunning chip to open the scoring before Lina Magull equalised with just 10 minutes left.

Substitute Chloe Kelly then proved to be the hero –– prodding home from close range in the second half of extra-time. 

The Manchester City star removed her top after scoring in a moment that mirrored Brandi Chastain’s iconic celebration at the 1999 Women’s World Cup. 

“I see you,” Chastain wrote to Kelly on Twitter. “Well done. Enjoy the free rounds of pints and dinners for the rest of your life from all of England. Cheers!”

After the match, Kelly was understandably jubilant and launched into a rendition of “Sweet Caroline”
