Cristiano Ronaldo opponent left 'disappointed' by former Manchester United star's behaviour

Al Wehda striker Jean-David Beauguel said he was surprised by Cristiano Ronaldo's demeanour towards his Al Nassr teammates during their King Cup of Champions defeat on Monday.

Beauguel stole the show when he scored an acrobatic effort to knock Ronaldo's Al Nassr side out of the tournament at the semi-final stage. But at half-time Ronaldo was caught on camera shouting at his coaching staff as he trudged down the tunnel. The 38-year-old's frustration was compounded by missing a chance to put his side ahead early on.

And in an interview with L'Equipe, Beauguel explained he had tried to swap shirts with his idol after the match but the encounter left him underwhelmed. "I was a little disappointed," he said.

"At the end of the game, I told him that I was a big fan and asked for his jersey. He shook my hand without really looking at me, with a very contemptuous air.

"I still remember the videos I watched of him when I was in college. I understand that he was disappointed after the loss, that he is a great competitor, but his attitude surprised me. Even on the pitch, he was upset, he yelled at his teammates."

While he was saddened by how his meeting with Ronaldo ended, Beauguel believes the ex-United man's move to the Middle East has been a success.

"Beyond the economic aspect, which is sure to be positive, I think his arrival is great for Saudi football," he added. "The Saudis are football fans. And his arrival may push players of his calibre to want to play here. This will allow the development of football here, academies and training centres."

Ronaldo returns to Saudi Pro League action tonight as Al Nassr host Al Raed.
