Rio Ferdinand gives Cristiano Ronaldo energy in comical Jamie Carragher encounter after 'clown' jibe

Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher laughed and shook hands on Wednesday night, after the latter had labelled the Manchester United man a 'clown' last week.

The respective BT Sport and CBS Sports pundits disagreed on a penalty decision during last week's Champions League semi-final between Inter and AC Milan. VAR overturned a penalty decision in the San Siro first leg, which Ferdinand felt was the wrong call.

Former Liverpool defender, Carragher, could not quite believe that opinion though, saying: "I think anyone out there who is watching the replay and seeing what VAR do and still believe that is a penalty - they must be a clown."

Former United defender Ferdinand addressed the comment on his own podcast that week, commenting: "Every time I see him it's all love man. I’m a loving guy, we hug and we shake hands and have a little laugh.

"I don't understand why he came in with hostility, it's a hostile energy and I don’t understand it. He’s been on our show, we see each other and it's all cool. He used to carry my boots when we were with England; he always showed me love."

And that love was on show at the Etihad Stadium ahead of Manchester City's 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid. Ferdinand and his fellow punditry team strolled over to speak with the CBS team - which left Carragher blushing, before eventually seeing the funny side.

Rio initially blanked Carragher as he strolled over to meet Thierry Henry, before turning back to shake hands with the former Liverpool defender - much to the amusement of his fellow pundits.
