Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd legend trained after winning 2008 Champions League final

The 2008 Champions League final was a rollercoaster of emotions for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester United‘s main man was comfortably the best footballer on the planet throughout 2007/08 and lived up to that billing in the first half of the all-English encounter against Chelsea.

In the 26th minute of play, Ronaldo planted a header past Petr Cech from Wes Brown’s cross to put Sir Alex Ferguson‘s side 1-0 ahead.

Frank Lampard then equalised just before half-time in Moscow, with the rain-soaked game eventually going to penalties.

And in the shootout, Ronaldo temporarily hit rock bottom after Cech saved his spot kick.

That looked as if it would be the moment that cost United the Champions League, but John Terry’s infamous slip handed them another life.

Edwin van der Sar then got the better of Nicolas Anelka in sudden death to secure club football’s biggest prize for the men in red.

Ronaldo was face down on the floor in tears after his teammate’s save, which was certainly understandable given that he was the width of a post away from being the fall guy.

But Ronaldo certainly didn’t let his emotions get the better of him for long.
