Cricket SA announces new medical chief for Proteas men and women

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced the appointment of Dr Hashendra Ramjee as its new Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Ramjee replaces Dr Shuaib Manjra, who served as CMO from August 2019 to March 2024.

CSA said in a statement that Ramjee will oversee their medical operations "ranging from injury management to preventative care and conditioning across the national men's and women's pipeline". He will also oversee CSA’s designated medical staff in collaboration with the high-performance lead.

Ramjee was also the medical officer for the first two editions of the popular SA20 event and was the Proteas men's team doctor from 2019 to 2023.

He was with the SA men during the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups and last year's 50-overs World Cup in India.

Prior to joining the national side, he was actively involved with domestic outfit the Titans and he's also gained extensive experience across various sporting disciplines, including serving as the team doctor for the Kaizer Chiefs Football Club since 2015.

Ramjee received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Witwatersrand and holds a Master of Science in Sports Medicine from the University of Pretoria.
