Creetown players told to treat friendlies like competitive matches

Creetown’s players have been told to treat their friendlies like competitive matches.

The Castle Cary Park side are shaping up for another shot at the South of Scotland League title after just missing out in the past two seasons.

And their preparations are going well as they beat Lowland League side Gretna 2008 on Saturday.

Boss Jamie Adams said: “I’ve told the boys in the last few pre-seasons there’s no point turning up for a friendly and just going through the motions.

“You need to treat it like every other game and they’ve done that in the pre-seasons I’ve been here.

“They were brilliant on Saturday and really good in the other two games we’ve played as well.

“They’ve been training well and put in good performances. They’ve been getting stronger in every game.

“They’ve been tough games and it’s been a great effort from the boys.”

Saturday’s friendly saw Creetown lead 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Kerr Lyon and Tino Kawanza.

Josh Rennie made it 3-0 after the break as the Castle Cary Park side recorded a good win over their Lowland League rivals.

Creetown were one of the last teams to finish their fixtures last season, with Adams giving the players an extra couple of weeks off so they were rested for the new season.

During the summer he has signed youngsters Kerr Lyon and Keir Halliday, with Tino Kawanza coming in from Wigtown & Bladnoch.

Goalie Andrew Donie and forward Joe Mcmillan have also returned to the club.

Adams said: “I’m looking to get one or two more. The boys I’ve brought in have been brilliant, they’ve brought something different.

“We’ve two or three younger ones and a more experienced one, so they’ve brought a freshness and done really well. They just need to keep doing
