Creetown chief hails side's character after coming from behind to beat Newton Stewart

Creetown chief Jamie Adams hailed his side’s character after they fought back from two goals down to take three points against local rivals Newton Stewart.

Zak Service put the league leaders into an early lead, Robert Middleton doubling the advantage before Harry Mitchell’s goal started the fightback.

Creetown’s hopes were boosted when Middleton was sent off just before the break, with Josh Rennie equalising in the second half.

And David Hughes bagged what turned out to be the winner a couple of minutes from time to send the Castle Cary Park side home happy.

Adams said: “For anybody watching it, it was good to watch – but maybe not so much being in the dugout.

“The character and the discipline the boys showed was incredible.

“You’re so low being 2-0 down after half an hour and then come 90 minutes how high you’re feeling. It’s all down to the boys.

“Discipline is a big thing and they stuck to their task. The character they showed was outstanding – and the subs were amazing.

“I’ve got Shay Meagher on loan from Queen of the South. I think he’s only just turned 17 and he came on and played like a man.

“Everything he did was brilliant, the way he sees the ball and plays the ball. His energy and enthusiasm was incredible

“He got left out so to come and respond like that was brilliant.”

The result lifted Creetown a point above their local rivals, who have played a game more, and they’re just a point off new leaders Dalbeattie Star.

Adams said: “Every game is crucial but no matter what happens in the league, when you play your rivals twice and win one and draw one – we did the same last season – they’re the kind of games that are going to be remembered at the end of the season.
