Creetown boss pleased with players despite Ashfield defeat

Creetown chief Jamie Adams was pleased with his players’ efforts even though they let a two goal lead slip against Ashfield.

The Castle Cary Park side led 3-1 in the SFA South Region Challenge Cup clash before the visitors rallied to take a dramatic 4-3 win.

Adams said: “Performance wise it was brilliant. I think Ashfield are a decent team and it’s sometimes a step up when we play those sorts of teams but we matched them every way.

“Sometimes you don’t win games of football but when you play the way we did for 85 minutes you can accept it, as much as you don’t want to get beaten.”

Harry Mitchell scored to give Creetown the lead only for Ashfield to equalise through Bobby Barr.

Mitchell restored the advantage just before the interval and then completed his hat-trick early in the second half.

That should have been that but the visitors produced a stunning comeback, Sean Doherty pulling one back with a great header.

Barr then equalised from the spot before a late own goal gave the visitors the win.

Adams said: “It was a wee bit of game management and individual errors, we lost a goal from a corner, which was disappointing and gave away a penalty.

“At 3-1 we were in complete control then a decision goes against us, where the ball was out but the goalkeeper says it was definitely in.

“These things happen and we should defend the cross better.

“There were so many positives to take, the boys were brilliant and it’s hard to have a go at them.

“A couple of weeks ago we weren’t at our best, but the last game and the second half against Nithsdale was much better so I think they’ll be positive – winning is a massive part of football but it isn’t everything.
