Creetown boss hails side for hauling themselves back into the South of Scotland League title race
Creetown boss Martin McCaulay has hailed his side for hauling themselves back into the South of Scotland League title race.
A difficult start to the season, including the departure of gaffer Jamie Adams, saw them with just one point after four games.
But Saturday’s 2-0 win at Stranraer was their ninth league victory in a row and they are now just four points behind leaders Nithsdale Wanderers, who have played a game more.
McCaulay said: “Stranraer were joint top of the league before Saturday. When we played them first team, which was the fifth game of the season, they were on 12 points and we were on one.
“What the players have done from that game onwards to beating them again on Saturday is nothing short of incredible. If we win our game in hand we’ll go above them.
“Nine wins on the spin is hard to do - especially after the start we had.
“Stranraer had their best performance of the season a few weeks ago away to Dalbeattie. They went with a 3-5-2 that day so I knew they’d set up in the same kind of formation, although it was different personnel on Saturday.
“That suited us to a T because I knew the areas they were weak in and where we could attack them and that’s exactly where the two goals came from.”
Creetown led at the break thanks to a goal from Dean Agnew, Joe Mcmillan doubling the advantage in the second half.
And McCaulay believes the 2-0 scoreline flattered their opponents.
He explained: “The best way I can describe the performance is a dominant and disciplined display. Apart from the first five minutes, where my team never got to grips with the way I wanted us to set up, it was totally one sided.
“To be honest, 2-0 flatters them. We should have been out of sight at half-time. We got our goal just before
