Crass Rangers TV dig heard by millions is called out as Hotline claims Celtic fans live in fear of rivals

Celtic fans swamped the Hotline to offer congratulations to their team for winning the title at Tannadice.

But it was about more than just pats on the back with Rangers being savaged and even snooker star John Higgins getting grief.

Celtic’s 5-0 win over Dundee United secured a 55th crown and Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “I grudgingly forked out on the massively-inflated ticket price on my trip to Tayside. However it was worth every penny as Celtic produced a display worthy of champions.

“Nicolas Kuhn silenced a number of critics with an outstanding display and now Celtic fans can look forward to the forthcoming friendly at Ibrox.”

Sean McGarvey, Cumbernauld, added: “Now that Scotland’s most successful club ever have wrapped up another title, with a world record ninth treble on the horizon, I’d suggest we also wrap the first team up in cotton wool until the Scottish Cup Final. Send the young team and reserves out for the Glasgow derby. No need to risk injury against a wee diddy team.”

Rangers drew 2-2 with St Mirren just after Celtic’s win and Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, said: “That just sums up how bad Rangers have been this season. The campaign cannot finish quick enough. Honestly, apart from the Old Firm match next Sunday, I would be happy for us to forfeit all our remaining games since we cannot finish any lower than second place.”

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “Nothing’s changed for this inept Rangers side. A paper thin defence, attack that couldn’t burst a wet paper bag, Cyriel Dessers' terrible miss, harassed by a St Mirren side who were up for it. Where does the club go from here? A question the new buyers must answer. They have a mammoth task on their hands. Fans just want the season to end.”
