Crashes cause major delays on M61 after traffic stopped on M60

There are major delays on the M61 today following crashes.

Traffic was temporarily stopped after a crash on the nortbound side of the motorway between junction six and eight. Two lanes remain shut with large delays. A collision has also been reported on the southbound carriageway in a similar area.

It comes at the same time as all traffic was stopped on part of the M60 following a 'police incident' today.

Vehicles were at a standstill on the anticlockwise carriageway between junction 20 at Blackley and junction 19 at Heaton Park. An update from traffic monitoring system Inrix at 1.15pm said: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to police incident on M60 anticlockwise from J20 A664 Manchester New Road (Higher Blackley) to J19 A576 Middleton Road (Heaton Park Three Arrows Roundabout).

"All traffic held around 13:05." An image from the scene shows a queue of traffic on the anti-clockwise carriageway while vehicles have been stopped.
