'Drugs den' that caused misery on Greater Manchester estate closed by court

A 'drugs den' that blighted a Rochdale estate and caused misery to neighbours has been shut down. Manchester Magistrates Court granted a closure order against the property on the Atherstone block of flats, in Falinge.

Greater Manchester Police says the property was the source of 'nuisance' for other residents on the estate. Residents had reported significant anti-social behaviour taking place at the flat.

Neighbourhood Inspector Meena Yasin, from the Rochdale North Neighbourhood Poling Team, said: "This is the tougher end of neighbourhood policing and marks a significant step forward for us in Rochdale. The property had been operating as a drugs den, with numerous criminal activities taking place including a significant amount of anti-social behaviour emanating from the address.

"Our communities tell us that anti-social behaviour is important because it adversely impacts upon their ability to live their lives. The quality of life of ordinary law-abiding residents is important, and this closure order sends a clear message that we will listen - and that we will act."

The closure order was issued in court on Thursday (April 6). It followed work between GMP, Rochdale Council, the Community Safety Unit and Rochdale Boroughwide Housing.
