Crash shut major route through Cardiff
Police were at the scene of a crash in Cardiff. A South Wales Police spokesperson said at 1.35pm on Monday that Cowbridge Road West in Ely had been closed at Ely Bridge. "It is expected to remain closed for some time," they said.
The two-vehicle collision happened close to Colin Way. In its initial statement, the force had described the crash as "serious" but later confirmed there were no injuries. The route reopened at around 2.20pm.
"This was a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A48 near Ely Bridge which involved a Nissan Qashqai and a Kia Sportage," the spokesperson said. "The road was blocked in both directions until the vehicles could be removed. Motorists are thanks for their patience."
Before normal bus services resumed, Cardiff Bus tweeted at 1.32pm: "Diversion to route 17, 18 @ 96A. Buses from the city centre are having to divert via Leckwith Rd & A4232 at present due to an incident at Ely Bridge outward. Journey to Cardiff City Centre unaffected. Outbound stops in Canton and Victoria Park are not being served."
