Craig Gilroy cited for challenge on Scarlets' Rogers

Ulster's Craig Gilroy has been cited for his first-half challenge on Tom Rogers of Scarlets last Friday night.

The province moved into second place in the United Rugby Championship thanks to a bonus-point win at Kingspan Stadium.

In the 22nd minute Gilroy was sent to the bin by referee Jaco Peyper after a shoulder to the head of Rogers, who retired injured.

Gilroy has now been cited for an act of foul play, with the URC saying: "Arrangements for the disciplinary process are currently in progress and will be announced in due course."

On RTÉ's Against The Head programme, Eddie O'Sullivan said Gilroy was lucky not to see red.

"The collision is just horrendous," said O'Sullivan. "It's a shoulder straight to the head at high velocity. The referee said it's a yellow card because of a mitigation: the player was falling.

"You have got to wonder where that protocol sits now in terms of player safety if that's a yellow card. And I'm not having a go at Gilroy. I don't think he intended it. We've seen red cards for a lot less."
