Coventry City make second summer signing with arrival from Tottenham Hotspur

Coventry City have signed an exciting young player from Tottenham Hotspur to add strength and pace to Mark Robins’ wider squad.

Dermi Lusala is described as a rapid right sided full-back with impressive dribbling skills on the attack, and joins the Sky Blues on a free transfer after his contract expired this week.

The London-born 19-year-old started out at Brentford but switched to Spurs’ Academy in 2016, earning caps at England youth level and progressing to the Premier League club’s Under-18s and Under-23s. He played 11 games in the second half of the Premier League 2 campaign last season, including filling in at left-back on three occasions, before his release this summer.

Lusala has agreed a two-year deal and will initially hook up with the club’s Under-23s.

Manager Mark Robins said: “We’re pleased to welcome Dermi to Coventry City. Dermi is good on the ball and likes to get forward as well.

“Those attributes, and his background at Tottenham, will hold him in good stead as we look to continue his development here at Coventry City, initially working with our Under 23s squad and the staff there.”

Although the teenager is initially set to be part of the Championship club’s development programme, Robins has spoken about drafting in young players who are capable of stepping up relatively swiftly.

The City boss told CoventryLive recently: “We’re still working on trying to recruit and recruiting like we do is a balance between bringing in players who can be for the future and those who can be for the here and now.
