Couple's VERY long wait for RAC after Range Rover breaks down in blistering heat

A couple say they had to wait more than 12 HOURS for the RAC to turn up when their Range Rover broke down in the blistering heat. Lee Giddle, his partner and his dog were left stranded on Grains Road in Oldham on Monday afternoon (September 4) after their Evoque came to a stop.

Eventually, they abandoned it. It was recovered in the early hours of the next morning. RAC bosses have apologised, saying the hot weather led to a 'large spike in breakdowns over a short period of time', meaning longer waits for customers.

Lee 35, from Bury, was on his way to visit his family before the car starting 'juddering' at around 2pm. He pulled over, but said his car was partially on the road.

He said he called the RAC after a couple of hours and was initially told he would have to wait an hour and 45 minutes. Help didn't arrived until 4am, he said. "We got out the car and it was roasting and found a a little bit of shade and we just waited," Lee told the Manchester Evening News.

"As time went on, it got to a couple of hours and I called the RAC and told them the car is half in the middle of the road, I've got a dog that's panting, obviously we've got no water with us, it's 27 degree heat and we're in a really bad situation."

Later in the afternoon, his mum - who lives 20 minutes - picked up the dog. He stayed with the car with his girlfriend. Drivers were 'flying past', he added.

"It started getting really dark and I realised then there's no streetlights and I have a black car," he said. "I was so mad I started taking pictures. I thought 'it's too unsafe' and rang my dad to come and get us. I just had to leave my car and abandon it.
