Couple's puppy dies after swallowing teething toy bought on Amazon

A puppy sadly passed away, and two others were injured, after playing with a chew toy bought from Amazon.

The seven-week-old pup, named Miss Red Collar, had to be rushed to the vet after chewing on the toy. Despite an operation to remove the toy from her stomach, she couldn't be saved.

Two other puppies also needed operations after showing symptoms, but they survived. Amazon said the toy has since been removed from the site.

Steven Pooley, 58, and his partner Gulin Milne, 52, are heartbroken over the loss and now face a bill of around £4,000 for the surgeries and checks on the other dogs. Steven said: "It's absolutely dreadful. I'm utterly devastated.

"We've loved and nurtured these puppies every moment of each day. This is absolutely horrible. I just want to warn others so they don't buy them and put their pets at risk."

He explained that the toys, a green bone and a pink heart, broke apart easily. "The toys weren't chew proof at all. The puppies bit them into pieces and ingested them. There were no bits lying around so we just thought the toys were lost."

Steven and Gulin, who live in Bala, Wales, had been helping their Alaskan malamutes Nala, two, and Bryn, six, raise ten pups. The litter was about seven weeks old when they gave the dogs a pack of chew toys on February 10.

That evening, Steven noticed two chews were missing. He then realised that Miss Red Collar hadn't eaten her lunch or dinner on February 11.

She was sick six times in the evening and the last bout smelled of faeces, according to Steven. After searching online, he thought she might have a blockage in her gut and quickly took her to the emergency vet.
