Councils issue update after snow sees bin collections missed

Several councils say they are catching up with bin collections after snow and ice saw many residents' rubbish not picked up. The region woke to snow on Tuesday morning after arctic winds brought a cold snap.

And several town halls say the conditions meant refuse collectors met with difficulties accessing some properties.

Bolton Council said on their social media accounts earlier (Wednesday): "Snow and ice this week have led to delays in some bin collections. Our teams are working hard to get to as many bins as possible, where safe to do so. Thank you for your patience.

"If we’ve missed your street, please leave your bin out for emptying. We’ll do our best to get to it later this week."

Tameside Council said: We're standing down all brown bin rounds on Thursday 18 January to give crews chance to catch up after the snow and ice disruption. Please leave your brown bins out for collection on their normal day next week. Thank you for your patience."

They said on Tuesday teams had been 'working working in the snow today, trying to get to as many bins as possible. However the conditions are making some side roads unsafe to access.'

Wigan Council said yesterday: "Due to challenging conditions for our bin wagons on the roads today, some bin collections have not been completed.

"If your bin was missed today, you don’t need to report it. Just leave it out and we will come and collect it Thank you for your patience as we catch up."

Whilst Salford Council said: "Weather conditions are delaying our bin crews today (Tuesday). We are trying to resolve any delayed black bin collections later today or tomorrow, so please leave your black bin out.
