"Could work out really nicely" - Journalist shares Armando Broja future claim at Southampton

Southampton will be hindered in their attempts to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja on a permanent basis because of the sanctions imposed on Blues owner Roman Abramovich, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Broja headed to St Mary’s on a season-long loan last August and has adjusted to the rigours of the Premier League impressively, leading to plenty of interest ahead of the summer window opening for business.

Southampton are understood to be in constant dialogue with Chelsea ahead of the expiry of Broja’s loan agreement, with the south coast club keen to explore whether a permanent deal could be struck.

However, Saints are not the 10-cap Albania international’s only suitors as Arsenal and West Ham United also have the frontman in their sights, while former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard – who is now in charge of Everton – is known to be an admirer.

But Broja’s parent club, Chelsea, are at risk of being plunged into financial ruin as Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government last week.

Consequently, the Russian oligarch’s assets have been frozen, resulting in Chelsea now being unable to sell match tickets and the club cannot make money from their merchandise shop.

The sanctions will halt the Blues’ summer transfer business and it could reportedly see Broja become a key member of the west Londoners’ squad next season.

Chelsea are also expected to benefit from Broja penning a new long-term deal, which does not expire until the summer of 2026, last year.
