Corry warns Bohs must buck worrying trend to lift FAI Cup

Paul Corry believes there's a sense of destiny around Bohemians winning the Sports Direct FAI Cup, but he warned Declan Devine's men must buck a worrying second-half-of-the-season trend to overcome St Pat's in Sunday's final.

Bohs were beten by the Saints on penalties back in 2021 in a tense, cagey contest. It would be no surprise if this weekend's showdown went the distance again, though Corry picked up on a Bohs decline that will concern their supporters.

"I've always had a feeling... that Bohs woud go on and win the FAI Cup this year," he told the RTÉ Soccer Podcast.

"I don't know what it is, it's just a niggling feeling that I have that it's been written for them. They've been waiting for silverware for so, so long. I think they'll get the job done.

"That said, having a bit of a look back on Bohs' results their from after 10 April this year against sides that finished above them, they played 15, lost six, drew eight and only won one.

"So there has to be major question marks against Bohs, particularly in the second half of the season this year. They just haven't won enough games of football.

"They'd a brilliant start to the season. They started on fire, they were top of the league after the first round of games I think, and they have somewhat fallen away in recent weeks and recent months. You would think that if they are to get a result against Pat's they're going to have to show a bit more than they have in those games."

It's set to be a record attendance at the Aviva Stadium with a crowd in excess of 45,000 on the cards.

League of Ireland attendances have risen and held post-Covid; another bumper cup final turn-up will further underline the growing interest.

"The game is in a really good place here, which is fantastic,"
