Coronation Street star stunned as he returns home with cupboard staple at eye-watering cost

Coronation Street star Colson Smith appeared stunned as he shared how much he spent on a cupboard staple amid the current cost of living crisis. The actor, who plays PC Craig Tinker in the ITV soap, appeared to be the victim of a crime as he popped to the shop and picked up some beans.

The soap star took a picture of the pack of four 415g tins of baked beans from a popular brand and posted it to his Instagram Story. In large font, Colson typed: "£5.00." Before he added a smaller message underneath, seemingly sharing his surprise at how much he paid.

"I s**t you not," he typed. Earlier this month, data showed how the average price of food and drink items has risen over the past year. It was published by the Office for National Statistics and was based on the Consumer Prices Index including owner-occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH). It showed that baked beans had jumped up in price by 39 per cent from 76p to £1.05.

Elsehwere in Colson's world, fans were left swooning when he took to social media with a fresh selfie. But he soon left them disappointed shortly after debuting his new look.

The 24-year-old acto showed fans that he isn't always the baby-faced cop we see on the small screen after they watched him grow up on screen as he was just 12 years old when he first set foot onto the famous cobbles. Posting a picture of himself to his Instagram grid, Colson could be seen sporting a black hoody and matching snapback as he gave his best serious pose towards the camera.

But everyone was more focused on his new look as he wrote: "Grew a beard for a bit." And just as fans were flooding him with compliments, they appeared to miss the fact that he added:
