Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank poses with 'lovely gents' after fans left sobbing over Billy Mayhew

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has taken to social media after he left viewers in tears as his character Billy Mayhew. During an unusual trip to Weatherfield on Tuesday night (February 13), the archdeacon was planning to surprise his husband Paul Foreman for Valentine's Day.

Despite his back pain, Billy was heard telling Summer that he was determined to make Valentine’s Day special for Paul with a motorbike and sidecar ride after their last attempt to surprise him didn't go to plan and left Paul in tears.

Wincing, Billy rides pillion and still in pain, he knocked back the painkillers and headed out to the bistro. However, they were barely in the door when an old schoolmate of Paul’s arrived as part of a very loud stag party and the mood was quickly ruined.

His old mate Benno was surprised to see Paul using a wheelchair, unaware of his Motor Neurone Disease (MND) diagnosis. Meanwhile, Billy had tried to surprise Paul with a Barbershop Quartet.

Paul’s delighted but when Benno heads over and tries to force him to dance, Billy sees red and punches Benno - much to everyone's shock. A humiliated Paul then demanded that a clearly shaken Billy take him home, but their troubles didn't end there as the police arrived to take Billy in for questioning about the alleged assault.

The couple's friend and local solicitor Dee Dee Bailey acted on his behalf and managed to get Billy back home and it was clear that the pressure of Paul's terminal illness, and looming plan to end his own life when he decides to, was getting to him.
