Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has been told not to 'panic' by fans as they flooded her with support as she was left overwhelmed by the response to the conclusion of her latest storyline.

The actress has dedicated the best part of a year to telling Lauren Bolton's story as a victim of grooming at the hands of Joel Deering. As fans of the ITV soap know, Joel arrived onto the cobbles in September 2023 as a charming solicitor who Dee-Dee Bailey soon fell head over heels in love with.

But under his smooth exterior Joel was hiding a dark secret - a penchant for younger, underprivileged girls, linking him to a troubled Lauren. The teen went missing last February and was presumed dead, with Roy Cropper put behind bars for her murder.

It was months later when Lauren returned to see Roy in hospital that the truth about what happened between Lauren and Joel was uncovered. It was revealed that Joel started by helping Lauren with money before he then started demanding sex in return. It was when Lauren tried to end the situation that Joel lashed out and left her for dead.

After Joel tried to cover his tracks before Lauren's return, pregnant with his child, it was eventually Joel’s fiancée Dee-Dee who finally uncovered the horrific truth, however, without hard evidence the police were forced to let him walk free.

Later, Weatherfield's biggest-ever whodunnit was seen coming to a dramatic end back in November as Joels killer was revealed as Lauren, months after it was revealed he was behind her disappearance and presumed murder after he groomed her. When Joel's body was found last September, after it was believed he had disappeared before taking his own life to escape justice for his crimes, it was was confirmed he had been killed
