Coronation Street's Simon star confirms 'incredibly emotional' exit as last scene features hidden personal link

Coronation Street star Alex Bain has opened up about his ‘incredibly emotional’ exit from the show as his final scenes are set to air. The actor says farewell to the ITV soap - 16 years after arriving on the cobbles as a six-year-old Simon Barlow.

He was at the centre of a controversial domestic abuse storyline where Simon started physically abusing his stepmum Leanne Battersby. The character also had to cope with his dad’s alcoholism and wrongful imprisonment for Tina McIntyre’s murder and as a teenager joined a county lines drug gang. More recently, after his dad left Weatherfield, Simon pleaded guilty to drink driving after injuring Sam Bateman in a car crash.
