Coronation Street's Alex Bain supported by co-stars as he declares 'end of an era' after taxi exit

Coronation Street star Alex Bain was flooded with messages of support as his exit as Simon Barlow aired. The actor previously confirmed in April that he'd be leaving the cobbles as he took to social media with a snap from his dressing room during his last day on the set.

He said at the time: "That's a wrap for Simon Barlow everyone! Thank you to all at Coronation Street for the best 15 years of my life!" Alex wrote with a string of hearts and face holding back tears emojis. He then added: "PS: I'm gonna miss this coat seriously."

Now, after arriving on the cobbles 15 years ago as a sweet, curly-haired six years old, Alex was seen in his final scenes for the ITV soap as Simon left Weatherfield to join his dad, Peter Barlow, on a yacht following his own exit on Boxing Day.

Simon's planned exit came as a shock to mum Leanne Battersby who had been away on a retreat with 'The Institute'. The messages about Simon's plans weren't passed to her by mentor Rown Cunliffe and she was left furious with fiance Nick Tilsley and sister Toyah Habeeb who'd encouraged him to go.

After a day of storming out every time she was confronted by the truth of what really happened, Leanna was present as the family decided to have a farewell drink at the Bistro, although Simon revealed he was now teetotal after struggling with alcohol in recent months.
