Coronation Street legend hints at soap return after branding character 'nightmare'

A Coronation Street icon has hinted at a possible comeback to the beloved soap.

Wendi Peters, who became a household name as Cilla Battersby-Brown from 2003 to 2007 and made a short reappearance in 2014, confessed that her character "was a nightmare".

Currently starring as Mother Superior in the musical Sister Act for a 15-week run, Wendi revealed that she still gets recognised for her role on the cobbles.

Writing for Woman's Weekly, Wendi reminisced about her time on Corrie, saying: "My gosh, she was a nightmare! But I had such fun playing her, and I'm extremely grateful because there aren't many soap characters that are still remembered all those years later. I'd never say never about going back."

The actress also shared anecdotes about her mischievous dog, Dorothy, who has a knack for opening the dishwasher and giving the dirty dishes a "pre-wash", reports the Daily Star.

Despite seeking advice from television programmes on curbing Dorothy's antics, Wendi admitted that at eight years old, there's "no way I'm going to change her". Having vowed not to tour again, Wendi is now looking forward to hitting the road with Dorothy by her side.

She concluded: "I had said I wasn't going to go on the road again - I'd had enough of living out of a suitcase and being away, but when I was offered Sister Act, I couldn't refuse. It's a great show and so much fun - you can't leave the theatre without having had a brilliant time."

Following the news that Wendi is smitten with her new boyfriend Gareth Wale, it appears the couple have been dating for several months, with Wendi seemingly introducing the carpet fitter to her family.

The 56-year-old actress has posted numerous romantic moments with her new partner on social media, including
