Coronation Street fans ask what soap will do as star's new job 'revealed' after major exit
Coronation Street fans have been left pondering who will replace Colson Smith when he leaves the cobbles as he eyes up his next career move.
Fans of the actor will now know that he'll seen soon be leaving the ITV soap after joining back in 2011 as Craig Tinker. Colson confirmed earlier this month that as he prepares to mark 14 years in Weatherfield this summer, his time as his policing alter-ego is set to come to an end after soap chiefs told him his character had reached the end of the road.
But fans will also know that Colson will still have a connection to the cobbles when he does eventually stop filming as his co-hosts podcast On The Sofa with Corrie stars Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price, who are famed for playing Weatherfield's David Platt and Nick Tilsley.
It was on the podcast in an episode dedicated to Colson being able to talk about his impending exit that he teased what he thinks is next for him. He said: "My love now is presenting, I want to be a presenter. I love everything about TV. I'm in a position where I have a lot of potential opportunities and I want to explore all of them."
And that may come as no surprise to Corrie fans as those who follow the soap on social media will often see Colson roped into doing some roving reporting behind the scenes.
In a number of new videos, the 26-year-old can be seen making his way around the iconic set interviewing the stars for show sponsor Hays Travel. In the clips, Colson becomes their ‘Rovers Reporter’ and grills the Corrie residents about where they think their characters would like to go on holiday and which other character they'd take with them.
Among his interviews are Claire Sweeney, who wants her character Cassie Plummer to head to Barbados for the new year
