Coronation Street exit as character leaves Weatherfield four years after recast

There's an emotional exit in Weatherfield next week as Summer Spellman says her goodbyes. The teen, played by Harriet Bibby, has been planning her departure from the cobbles of Coronation Street for a short while.

Last month (February) Summer, who has been part of the ITV soap since 2017 when she arrived as the daughter of a man named Charlie, told her guardian Billy Mayhew that she had been offered a chance to study in America.

The offer came after Summer's turbulent few years on the cobbles having dealt with an eating disorder which led to a diabetes diagnosis, a teenage pregnancy and subsequent kidnapping when she agreed to be a surrogate for churchgoers Mike and Esther Hargrave and a split from her boyfriend Aaron Sandford who later raped her best friend Amy Barlow.

However, Summer told Billy at the time that she knew it was not the right time amid his husband Paul Foreman's diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease. But later, Summer suggested asking for the placement to be put back a year, to which Billy agreed.

But, when Paul learnt of Summer’s trip of a lifetime, he urged her to leave Weatherfield, telling her he didn't want his condition to hold her back. And so it appears the plans have been put in motion and in upcoming scenes, she'll leave the famous cobbles behind.

According to new spoilers, Summer books her flight to Boston and Billy agrees to cook a roast dinner by way of celebration while Bernie Winter takes Paul to his appointment with the speech therapist.
