Cork City edge Sligo Rovers to snap losing streak

A Ruairi Keating goal snapped Cork City’s six-game losing streak by giving them a 1-0 victory over Sligo Rovers at Turner’s Cross.

With only one win between these two teams in the month of May, the tempo of the game was often slow as they tried to navigate the fixture while not taking any risks.

Cork City played with a 3-5-2 that had Gordon Walker and John O’Donovan playing as full-backs. Sligo’s 4-2-3-1 struggled to penetrate this, and the Bit O’Red resorted to high pressing through Kailin Barlow and Will Fitzgerald.

City’s reserve paid off in the form of a through ball from Joe O’Brien Whitmarsh that landed at the feet of Keating, and the striker fired in with 15 minutes on the clock.
